- I wrote about my entire CO poisoning experience here: http://www.alaskawellness.com/RisdahlJulyAug2006.htm but in a nutshell: My first chihuahua died and second Chihuahua obtained brain damage from what turned out to be a very low level CO leak in our home. I was pregnant at the time and by the 5th month, a sonogram revealed that I had been exposed to low levels of CO because of damage to my placenta. We replaced our furnace, blocked the vent in the garage, and stopped parking my car in the garage just to be safe. Baby was born healthy. We now check our CO detectors regularly for "Peak Level" to make sure we are not being exposed.
