Profile Information

About Me:
I was an office manager for a Labor organization for 21 years, with a married son and grandchild and in a committed relationship of 11 years with my kind, loving and very special love of my life - Jerry before our devastating CO Poisoning on Thanksgiving day 2008.
My Interest In This Group:
Survivor
About My Carbon Monoxide Experience:
On Thanksgiving day 2008 I watched the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and called my family members to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving, Jerry went to Mothers house which he did everyday (she is 88 yrs, old and he watched over her) We were scheduled to attend dinner at his twin brothers house for dinner around 5 PM. I was going to shower and get dressed around 2 PM, but I decided to lie down for a while because I had a headache. Jerry returned from his Mom's about that time and I told him I wasn't feeling up to going to his brothers for dinner for him to go and be sure to bring me a Turkey platter for later. I had fallen asleep on my couch in the living room, I awoke because I had a problem breathing and noticed that Jerry was in the recliner chair about 6 foot away from me, I shouted that something was wrong and we needed to get out of the house NOW!!! He replied that he was not able to move and to try and save my self I was able to. In a panic I screamed NOOOO!!! I'll try to get us help, I was unable to move my legs, so I rolled off the couch onto the floor and pulled myself with my arms to the front security door which was locked with a key, I had to try to reach up to the lock and try to turn the key before I was able to push the door slightly open while praying for God to please help us or send someone quickly to help us. I shouted Help, Please Help Us over and over until I became unconsious. Jerry's twin brother Jack found us 2 days later on Saturday morning at about 10 AM. Sadly my Jerry did not survive and I was barely alive and was med-evacted to HUP where I had Hyper Baric Oxygen therapy 3 days and many tests. I did not even know what my name was, and was unable to walk. I thought it was all a terrible, horrific nightmare and I would soon awaken, but that is not what happened. The fire department representative told me that the chimney was blocked with leaves, bird feathers and debris and was not able to expel the carbon dioxide out properly. I was diagnosed with multiple medical problems, pneumonia, congestive heart failure, acute renal failure, rhabdomyolisis, hyperlipidemia and carbon monoxide poisoning. Now I am unable to walk without pain due to deep vein thrombosis, lower back pain and shortness of breath since I was readmitted to the hospital after 4 days discharge due to pulmonary emboli of both lungs dues to HIT from heparin. I am now surviving with multiple medical problems, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety and the loss of my beloved Jerry.
